FACIAL PLASTIC SURGERY
When it comes to deciding which of the top plastic surgery procedures you will select, it’s important to understand what each of these plastic surgeries entails. Here is a sneak peek at some of the plastic surgery procedures that Dr. Ascherman can perform for you.
Examples of Popular Plastic Surgery Procedures in New York
Blepharoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure that repairs droopy eyelids and removes excess eyelid skin and fat. Individuals with excess lower eyelid skin or fat, excess skin on the upper eyelids, bags under the eyes, or with baggy or droopy upper eyelids are great candidates for this surgery. Dr. Ascherman typically performs this procedure in his office under local anesthesia, which leads to a quicker recovery than with general anesthesia. However, if a patient wishes, or if it is performed at the same time as other procedures, it can also be done under intravenous sedation or general anesthesia.
A facelift is a surgical procedure done to improve both the look of the face and the neck. During this plastic surgery procedure, the facial soft tissues are lifted, and any excess skin is removed and/or draped back over the new contours. Many patients choose this plastic surgery when their facial skin has become loose, their cheeks are sagging, or they have excess skin in their lower jaw lines and neck. During recovery, you will be expected to rest with your head elevated, and to avoid strenuous activities for at least two weeks following surgery.
A tummy tuck or abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure that improves the appearance of the abdominal area. It removes excess skin and fat and tightens connective tissues in the area to create a more toned look. A tummy tuck is great for someone with a stretched lower abdominal wall, who has excess skin in the abdomen, or who had abdominal liposuction but remains with excess skin in the area. A tummy tuck can also be done in combination with other body contouring plastic surgery procedures by Dr. Ascherman. Post-op you will have small drainage tubes for several days that are placed near the incision site to drain blood or fluid. You will also have a surgical dressing in your abdominal area. Swelling may last for several weeks or more, but slowly disappears with time.
Liposuction is a procedure that uses suction to remove fat from specific body parts. It can also contour these areas. Also sometimes referred to as body contouring, this plastic surgery procedure isn’t considered a weight-loss method. Liposuction is frequently conducted on the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks, chest/back and neck. Patients can expect swelling and bruising after their surgery. Compression garments are often worn to help reduce swelling for the first few weeks following your procedure.
Also known as a mastopexy, the breast lift procedure can be part of a Mommy Makeover surgery or done on its own. This surgical procedure changes the shape of the breasts. During the surgery, excess skin is removed, and breast tissue is reshaped in order to raise the breasts and/or to restore firmness. Individuals with nipples that point downward and/or have sagging breasts may choose this surgery. Pregnancy, gravity and weight changes can affect the placement of breasts on the body. This plastic surgery won’t significantly change the size of the breasts; that is done with breast augmentation or breast reduction surgery. Recovery takes several weeks as swelling fades away. Women may return to work after a week or so with careful attention to the activities they are doing.
Mommy Make Over
Essentially, a mommy makeover can include any or all of the plastic surgery procedures already mentioned. It is done to help improve a woman’s body after she has had children. Some procedures include: arm lifts, buttock lifts, breast augmentation, breast lifts, breast reduction, liposuction, and a tummy tuck.
Some non-surgical procedures that New York plastic surgeon Dr. Ascherman also performs include:
Botox is an injectable procedure that is often performed to decrease forehead lines, lines around the eyelids, and lines between the eyebrows. It is administered with a fine needle into specific muscles that are being treated. The number of units used will depend on the strength of the muscles being treated, and the extent of the lines and/or wrinkles involved. It usually takes three to seven days, and occasionally longer, for it to take full effect. Botox frequently lasts three to four months.
Dermal fillers or wrinkle fillers are injected directly into the face to eliminate or reduce the appearance of wrinkles. They can also be used to restore youthful rounded contours or to replace lost volume in the cheeks or lips. They can help treat vertical lip lines, thinning lips, wrinkles, lip borders, and Marionette (corner of the mouth) lines. Average treatment takes about 30 minutes and the number of syringes used depends on the treatment plan. Results often last about 4-6 months, but this varies with each patient.
